Maymont Elementary opened as Maymont School on April 1, 1957, for Junior Primary-grade 6 pupils transferred from Randolph and West End. A dedication ceremony was held on May 25, 1958. Maymont operated as a middle school 1970-71, and as an annex to Amelia School for a couple of years beginning 1971-72. Mrs. Wilma Battle, our principal, was appointed in June, 2007. Our school houses the Virginia Preschool Initiative for 3 and 4 year old children, Kindergarten through fifth grades, as well as four exceptional education classes. We are fortunate to be located close to Maymont Park in the city of Richmond, Virginia.
