"But this is getting confusing,"you say. I'm talking about the internet and you are talking about books. Do they work the same way?

Well, let's look at this copyright stuff again slowly. You may already know about the right way to make use of someone else's information in a library book or an encyclopedia. Your teacher probably explained that you must never copy word for word. Instead, you must do two things.

1. Put the information in your own words.
2. Give credit to the source of your information.

Well, information on the internet works pretty much the same way. Yes, you can use it BUT only if you do Rule 1 and Rule 2.

So first you re-write, then you give credit.

When you give credit for text, it is usually done with a bibliography.

When you give credit for a web page, it is done as follows:

Author. Title of web page. Web page address Copyright year.

Here is an example of how you would give credit for a web site:

Coleman, Sam J. Why the Dinosaurs Died. http://www.dinosaurmania.com 1999.

Now that wasn't so bad, was it?
